This week, I’m taking you to a place in Paris that students love for studying, Parisians adore for its art and food, and everyone appreciates for a little peace and quiet.
My son is taking his bac (short for Baccalauréat) exams this week—OMG, I can’t believe I’m the mom of a teenager in his final year of high school in France.
Whaaaaat?!
Excusez-moi—hahaha! I’m seriously so proud of my lil baby (even though he’s 6'3" now!) because he’s just the best and follows his passions with focus and heart.
Last week, he was studying at the BNF Richelieu (Bibliothèque nationale de France) with his friends, and I popped by to drop off a birthday gift he’d forgotten at home for one of his “lil friends” (hahaha)
As I entered the space, I was greeted by lush greenery and remembered how much I love this space. You’d think we were somewhere in the South of France. Inside, you will discover newly renovated study areas, a restaurant, a bookstore, and even more greenery in another courtyard to the left.
He asked me to come say hi to his friends (!!!) but after several warnings not to “embarrass him”, I kept it cool—just a quick bonjour and out I went.
But of course, I had time to snap a few photos for you!
A lil bit about the BNF Richelieu
Located in the heart of the 2nd arrondissement, the Bibliothèque nationale de France - Richelieu site is a true gem for lovers of art, history, and architecture. Originally established in the 18th century as the royal library of Louis XV, it has evolved into a national treasure trove of France’s cultural memory.
The space has been closed for a really long time and following a major renovation completed in 2022, the building now hosts:
The Oval Room (Salle Ovale) – a stunning, airy reading space open to the public (and super Instagrammable). You can enter and just sit with a good book for a pause. All books published in France have an archived copy at Le BNF.
A museum displaying everything from medieval manuscripts to antique coins and fashion sketches. One of the most stunning backdrops to see an art show!
A lovely interior garden perfect for reading, lunch, or simply pausing for a moment of quiet.
A bookshop and café for thoughtful gifts or bites. They have some cool little books and postcards for gift-giving too!
Architecturally, the BNF Richelieu is a harmonious blend of neoclassical design and modern innovation. It’s a perfect spot to escape the rush of Paris while still being surrounded by its spirit, thanks to the lush greenery out front.
A little heaven in a big metropolitan city!

Travel from Paris: we took a trip to Deauville and I am excited to share some photos and tips soon… :)
Fête de la Musique - this year has been the biggest I have ever seen! It was such a vibe as usual, we celebrate an all-day music and dancing in the street on the 21st of June for the summer solstice.
Have you ever visited the BNF Richelieu? Or do you have a go-to Paris hideaway when you want a quiet moment in the city? I’d love to hear from you.
